Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy
Restoring Land. Revitalizing Culture. Reimagining the Future.
In just three years, the Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy (TTPC) has done what once seemed impossible: returned stolen land to the Tongva people, reignited cultural traditions long threatened by erasure, and begun to heal both land and community.
As part of a growing Land Back movement across Turtle Island, TTPC is reclaiming not only acreage, but autonomy, identity, and future possibility for the Tongva people. The return of the land now known as Huhuunga in 2022 placed Los Angeles County among a small but growing number of places where Indigenous stewardship has been restored, joining efforts such as the Esselen Tribe’s return of ancestral land in Big Sur and the Winnemem Wintu’s river restoration in Northern California.
