Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy
The Tongva Taraxat Paxaavxa Conservancy (TTPC) is a Tongva-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to stewarding land and uplifting culture in Tovaangar.
TTPC was founded in 2022 to convene Tongva people, support ceremony and cultural practices, and steward the land with reciprocity and care.
We are not a Tribal authority or governmental body; this distinction reflects our goals of education and cultural preservation as an independent nonprofit organization.
Purpose
Impact
TTPC serves Tongva people, the Native community, the Indigenous diaspora, and kuuyam (guests). We welcome all who wish to learn and engage in a good way.
Since 2022, TTPC has:
Facilitated 50+ community gatherings, including ceremony, educational, and cultural events
Hosted 450+ community members at gatherings
Brought together 200+ Volunteers at Huhuunga
Built cultural and physical infrastructure at Huhuunga, including a Ceremonial Circle and Discussion Circle
Cleared countless invasive species, and practiced Traditional Ecological Knowledge, reducing wildfire impact
Huhuunga
Huhuunga, which means “place of the bears,” is a one-acre parcel in Altadena that was returned to Tongva stewardship in 2022.
The land is being restored for ceremonial, educational, and ecological use. It currently serves as the home of TTPC, and a sacred place for Native people to gather, practice culture, and reconnect with their ancestral roots.
By restoring ecological balance and revitalizing ceremony, we are healing the land and our people after generations of displacement.
Programming
At TTPC, programming supports our purpose of convening Tongva people, supporting ceremony and cultural practices, and stewarding the land with reciprocity and care.
We welcome Tongva community, Native relatives, and neighbors to Huhuunga as a welcoming, inclusive space for all who wish to learn and engage in a good way.
Our programming centers on ceremony and cultural practice for the Native community, educational events for the general public, opportunities for emerging leaders, and land stewardship that integrates Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK).
Programming with TTPC is intentionally youth-centered, providing opportunities for the next generation to share across cultures to serve as a bridge for meaningful connection.
